We had an awesome (and very close) game tonight between the Shuckers and the Bears!
Shuckers (Visitors): Darius James, Adam Robertson, Austin Stordahl, Jose Ortiz, Trevor Powell, Marquez Cooks, Elijah Cooks, Travis Wilson, Mike Blackner, Jared Scott May, Sammy Beall, Nick Shock, Eddie Rembert, Darius Hammock, and Phillip Walters
Bears (Home): Garrett Enfinger, Collin Reusser, Michael Johnson, Shawn Nolan, Jacob Abston, Jeffery Smith, Ryan Hughes, Douglas Wilson, Chris Peacock, Nick Parker, Garrett Hughes, Hunter Freeman, Randal Etheredge, Phil Newberry, and Dakota Wilson
Defensively, the MVP of the night was Ryan Hughes. Throughout the game he successfully made 8 plays in which he fielded ground balls at short and threw the runner out at first. A few other outstanding defensive plays happened when Chris Peacock caught a foul ball by the fence on the first base side in the top of the 8th inning, and when Nick Shock caught a foul ball near the backstop. For the second out of the 7th inning, Nick Shock also prevented Collin Reusser from stealing. He threw the ball to 3rd, causing Collin to get in a run-down and resulting in an out for the Shuckers.
The Shuckers had 3 total hits for the game. The first was a RBI single made by Mike Blackner in the third inning. The second was also a single made by Travis Wilson in the 6th inning. The last was a RBI double in the gap hit by Adam Robertson.
The Bears had 5 total hits for the game. Jeff Smith and Ryan Hughes both went 1 for 3 with singles in the 2nd and 5th innings respectively. Chris Peacock also got a hit in the second inning. He went 1 for 2 with 2 RBIs. The offensive MVP of the game was Hunter Freeman. He went 2 for 2 with singles in the 3rd and 5th innings.
The first run of the game was scored by Jeff Smith for the Bears when Chris Peacock knocked him in in the second inning. Shortly after, Elijah Cooks was batted in by Mike Blackner, scoring the Shuckers’ first run in the top of the 3rd. In the bottom of the 3rd, the Bears came back with 2 more runs on the board, scored by Hunter Freeman and Phil Newberry. In the 4th inning, one run was scored by Nick Shock for the Shuckers. The Bears were able to score 2 more runs in the 5th inning, putting the score at 2-5. Although the Shuckers scored 2 runs in the top of the 7th, it was not enough to catch the Bears’ lead. After 8 innings of play, the final score was 4-5 in favor of the Bears.
Stay tuned for updates on our next game. The event should be up soon.
